Copilot Weekly7 to 14 August 2026
A sourced digest of what changed in Microsoft 365 Copilot this week. Every item links to its first-party source.
This week at a glance
- Excel's =COPILOT function is cancelled. The roadmap entry that would have let a worksheet formula generate, classify and summarize text and data now reads cancelled, against what had been a January 2027 target date. Any plan that assumed a formula-level Copilot call in Excel has no product behind it.
- Two more cancellations landed in the same window. Improved long-file navigation for more accurate answers and clearer citations, and swapping stock video footage for AI-generated images in the Create experience. Three roadmap withdrawals inside a single seven-day window.
- Microsoft Entra Tenant Governance is generally available. Related tenants, least-privileged cross-tenant delegated administration, configuration baselines spanning Defender, Entra, Exchange Online, Intune, Purview and Teams, and secure tenant creation. It matters here because it is the control plane the multi-tenant agent management story sits on, and that capability is still in preview.
- The admin center gets an agents usage report. Active agents and active users, split by licensed and unlicensed users and by publisher type, down to individual user-agent pairs. The unlicensed split is the part worth looking at, since it counts agent use by people who hold no Copilot licence at all.
- Picking a Cowork model is now a data-retention decision. Claude Fable 5 is in preview, stays off until an admin enables it, and requires data retention, so prompts and responses for that model are kept by the model provider rather than following Cowork's default no-retention posture.
GA & Rolling Out
11Vision in Microsoft 365 Copilot can analyze content shared on desktop screen and through mobile camera
GACopilot can analyze a shared desktop screen and, on mobile during a real-time voice session, a live feed from the device camera, front or back. It answers questions about what it sees in spoken form, grounded in work and web data. The roadmap entry reads generally available against a June 2026 target date.
Source updated SourceUpdates to Copilot and the Microsoft 365 Copilot app
Rolling outMicrosoft is merging the consumer Copilot app and the Microsoft 365 Copilot app into a single updated Copilot app. Sign-in supports a personal account, a work or school account, or both. For work or school the page states the icon and name update and otherwise minimal changes.
Source updated SourceChoose Anthropic models when editing with Copilot in Word
GACopilot in Word now supports selecting Anthropic models alongside the existing OpenAI models when editing a document. Previously only OpenAI models were available.
Source updated SourceCopilot uses enterprise assets hosted on Adobe Experience Manager when creating presentations
GACopilot in PowerPoint now draws on enterprise image assets held in an Adobe Experience Manager asset library connected to Microsoft 365, when creating presentations in Edit mode. Previously it used only publicly available or user-uploaded images.
Source updated SourceCreate a presentation with Copilot in PowerPoint directly from the PowerPoint Web App
GAUsers can now start a presentation with Copilot in PowerPoint directly from the web app home screen. Microsoft states this applies to Microsoft 365 Copilot Basic and Premium.
Source updated SourceOutlook: Copilot provides coaching feedback in chat as you draft, edit, and format emails
GACopilot now delivers coaching feedback on Outlook email drafts through chat and can apply suggestions to the message in place, with the user choosing which ones are applied. Previously the feedback appeared in canvas and suggestions could only be applied all at once.
Source updated SourceOutlook: Prepare for meetings with Copilot in classic Outlook for Windows
GACopilot prepares a user for a meeting by gathering the relevant context, tasks, documents and other resources ahead of it and surfacing them as real-time insights, in place of hunting through pre-reads and action items by hand.
Source updated SourceParallel content and identity crawl improves content freshness
GACopilot connectors now run content crawl and identity crawl in parallel, making ingested content available to users faster than before. Previously, content crawl and identity crawl executed sequentially, causing delays before content became accessible in Copilot. Now, both crawls run in parallel, reducing total processing time.
Source updated SourceReference web sources when creating a presentation with Copilot in PowerPoint
GACopilot in PowerPoint can now reference online sources while creating a presentation. Previously live web information could not be used directly as source material there.
Source updated SourceServiceNow connectors support role-based permissions
GAServiceNow Knowledge and Catalog connectors now enforce access permissions based on user roles such as admin, knowledge manager, and knowledge admin. Earlier, permissions in ServiceNow Knowledge and Catalog connectors were determined only by user criteria without considering roles.
Source updated SourceTeams Meetings in Copilot Notebooks
GAMeetings as References brings Teams meeting content into Copilot Notebooks, so Copilot can be grounded on the discussions and decisions recorded in a meeting.

Preview & Frontier
2Turn meetings into momentum with Microsoft 365 Copilot
WatchA Teams blog roundup of Copilot meeting capabilities across three phases. Before: Copilot Chat schedules meetings and checks availability, reschedules 1:1 meetings and personal events a user has marked flexible, and drafts an agenda from meeting details and recent work. During: Facilitator answers questions, tracks agenda progress and turns conversation into shared tasks, and Interpreter does real-time speech-to-speech translation. After: a recap with AI notes, suggested action items and personalized highlights. Nothing in it carries a preview or general availability milestone, a roadmap ID or an admin control, and the 400 percent three-year ROI figure in the post is a Microsoft-commissioned Forrester projection rather than an observed result.
Source updated SourceChoose a model for Copilot Cowork
WatchLearn now documents the Cowork model picker: Auto by default, then GPT 5.5 (Frontier), GPT 5.6 Sol, GPT 5.6 Terra, Opus 5, Claude Sonnet 5 and Claude Fable 5. Fable 5 is the one that carries a governance condition. It is in preview, off until an admin turns it on under Copilot settings in the admin center, and it requires data retention, so prompts and responses for that model are kept by the model provider instead of following Cowork's default no-retention posture, with a banner shown while it is selected. A separate effort control (Light, Medium, High, Extra High and Max) sets how hard the model works and how quickly it consumes a user's limits, and an admin can switch off the Anthropic model family outright.

New & Updated Agents
4Work IQ MCP overview (preview)
PreviewA new Learn article under the Agent 365 documentation set, carrying Microsoft's preview banner: not meant for production use, possibly restricted functionality, supplemental terms of use. Two statements in it matter for governance. A Microsoft 365 Copilot licence is required to use Work IQ MCP servers, and admins allow or block MCP servers across the organization from the Microsoft 365 admin center. The catalogue spans Work IQ Copilot, Calendar, Mail, SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, User and Word servers, plus Windows 365 agents, Fabric IQ Ontology, Dataverse and Dynamics 365, and a management server for building custom ones. No general availability date is stated and no roadmap ID is cited.

In developmentRoadmap entry 569213, created 11 August, states users will be able to insert agents and skills into prompts for specialized tasks. They are added from an Agents and Skills tab, reached by selecting Add work content from the plus (+) menu, or by typing / or @ in the prompt itself.
Source updated SourceLegalZoom agent in Microsoft 365 Copilot
AnnouncedMicrosoft's 12 August post describes a LegalZoom agent running inside Microsoft 365 Copilot: chat with a LegalZoom Legal Assistant, get a recommended business formation plan, or reach an attorney without leaving Copilot. The post says the agent is available now through the Microsoft Marketplace, but names no roadmap milestone and no admin control, so there is nothing yet for tenant policy to point at. Microsoft's own footnote states that Microsoft 365 Copilot does not provide legal advice or legal services.

Admin & Governance
6Microsoft Entra Tenant Governance is now generally available
GAMicrosoft announced general availability on 10 August across four capabilities: related tenants, governance relationships for least-privileged cross-tenant delegated administration, tenant configuration management against baselines spanning Defender, Entra, Exchange Online, Intune, Purview and Teams, and secure tenant creation. It belongs in a Copilot brief because it is the control plane the multi-tenant agent management story sits on. General availability applies to Tenant Governance itself; the agent management capability it enables is stated as still in preview.
Source updated SourceMicrosoft 365 admin center: Agents usage report
GAA new agents usage report will be available in the Microsoft 365 admin center. The report covers agents in Microsoft 365 Copilot and Copilot Chat, with usage by both licensed and unlicensed users. It gives total active agents and total active agent users, segments active users by licensed and unlicensed, segments both active users and active agents by publisher type (user-created, built by the organization, built by Microsoft, built by Microsoft partners), and reports usage per user, per agent and per user-agent pair.
Source updated SourceManage Microsoft 365 Copilot scenarios in the Microsoft 365 admin center
PreviewLearn now documents a Copilot Frontier user access control, at Copilot > Settings > View all > Copilot Frontier in the admin center. The setting governs access to experimental and preview features in web apps, desktop apps and agents. The documented default is No access, so no users reach Frontier features until an admin changes it.
Source updated SourceSharePoint: Authoritative Sites
GAAdministrators can designate specific SharePoint sites as official, trusted sources of information. Microsoft states that classifying a site as authoritative causes its content, such as company news, policies and updates, to be prioritized across Copilot Search experiences.

Source updated SourceProactive push notifications for the Microsoft 365 Copilot mobile app
In developmentThe Microsoft 365 Copilot mobile app will send unprompted push notifications for common productivity workflows, named in the entry as 'Your Day at a Glance' and 'Items waiting for you'. Opening one takes the user to the matching Copilot response.

Compiled from public Microsoft sources: the Microsoft 365 Roadmap, Learn release notes, and official blogs. Every item links to its source.
Weekly cadence resumes here, covering 7 to 14 August 2026, after the combined edition that ran 27 July to 7 August. The source gap that edition named is closed: Microsoft’s Learn release notes published a batch on 11 August covering everything released from 28 July onward, so the days the previous edition could not reach surface in the items above.
One caution on the general availability pills carried from those release notes. None of those entries states a release stage in its own text. They are marked generally available on the strength of the page’s own framing, which says it lists features generally available in Current Channel and that Copilot features roll out gradually to a subset of users before expanding across an organization. Read it as released to Current Channel and still rolling out inside your tenant, not as fully deployed everywhere. The admin controls above map to our free field guides on Copilot data scope and rollout.
