Copilot Weekly27 July to 7 August 2026
A sourced digest of what changed in Microsoft 365 Copilot across two weeks, 27 July to 7 August 2026. Every item links to its first-party source.
Two weeks at a glance
- Domain Exclusion for Microsoft 365 Copilot has been rolled back, and that reverses what we published. Our 2026-W30 edition reported the control generally available on the strength of roadmap 503144. Microsoft's 4 August post says the feature is withdrawn while it evaluates next steps. Any web-grounding block list plan built on it has no product behind it right now.
- The metered layer got its enforcement mechanics. Spending alerts, a rule that the highest per-user limit wins, and overage handling that lets an in-progress task finish without billable charges. Agents consuming Copilot Credits now have a stated enforcement policy, and agents running on the GitHub Copilot harness bill by usage. All of it sits on top of the flat per-seat licence rather than replacing it.
- The model lineup moved again. The Copilot app now runs OpenAI GPT-5.6 and Anthropic Claude Sonnet 5. Cowork adds Anthropic Claude Fable 5, off by default.
- One governance control advanced, for some tenants. Purview DLP for external web search went from in development to rolling out (roadmap 565870), the only control in this window that moved forward instead of back. Check the scope before planning on it: the entry lists its cloud instances as GCC, GCC High and DoD, so this is a US government cloud rollout and not a worldwide one.
- Complex web search with Copilot in Excel is cancelled. The roadmap entry now says Microsoft has decided not to move forward with the change. We reported it as in development in 2026-W28.
GA & Rolling Out

GAMicrosoft is moving the pipeline that assigns topics to survey comments onto Copilot, and says the change improves categorisation accuracy. (Status change: unknown -> generally available.)
Source updated SourceLists in Context IQ
Rolling outUsers will be able to search for and select SharePoint Lists through the Context IQ menu to ground their prompts in Copilot Chat. Previously users could not reach SharePoint Lists from Context IQ when composing prompts. The entry states the integration supports Microsoft 365 security and compliance policies for data access.

Source updated SourceVoice tethering
GAThe voice tethering feature builds on the recent introduction of Sign Language Mode. It ensures that when an interpreter voices for a D/HH signer, captions and transcripts attribute the spoken content to the signer rather than the interpreter. This provides accurate representation in meetings and makes it clear who is contributing to the conversation.
Source updated SourceFloating Copilot icon in File Previewer for OneDrive
GAThe file previewer in OneDrive and SharePoint now shows a floating Copilot button at the bottom right corner instead of in the command bar. Source updated SourceDomain Exclusion for Microsoft 365 Copilot has been rolled back
Rolled backMicrosoft says the feature described in its earlier announcement has been rolled back at this time, and that it is evaluating next steps. Admins who planned a web-grounding block list on this control need another mechanism until Microsoft says more. (Reverses our 2026-W30 edition, which called the control generally available on roadmap 503144. That entry was still marked Launched, rollout start June 2026, when we checked it on 7 August 2026.)
Source updated SourcePurview DLP for external web search in Microsoft 365 Copilot and Copilot Chat
Rolling outMicrosoft is extending Purview DLP for Microsoft 365 Copilot to external web search, so a policy can stop Microsoft 365 Copilot and Copilot Chat from putting sensitive data into a web query. Microsoft describes the control as operating in real time. The entry lists its cloud instances as GCC, GCC High and DoD, so it is a US government cloud rollout rather than a worldwide one. (Status change: in development -> rolling out.)
Source updated SourceData Loss Prevention - DLP Policy Change Insights with Security Copilot
PreviewSecurity Copilot generates a plain-language explanation of what changed in a Purview DLP policy after each update. Microsoft says it compares the policy version before and after the change and reports what changed, where, the impact, and the enforcement implications.

The roundup says this feature rolled out in July.
Source updated SourceData Loss Prevention, New Guided Experience to Diagnose and Resolve DLP Issues
PreviewMicrosoft is introducing a new guided diagnostics experience to help users understand why their DLP policies may not be behaving as expected. In developmentWith the introduction of file archiving support in SharePoint Online, administrators are looking to directly include archiving actions within their existing data retention policies. (Government-cloud entry, GCC, GCC High and DoD. The worldwide entry for the same capability, roadmap 561208, was covered in our 2026-W30 edition.)
Source updated SourcePurview in Microsoft Admin Center
In developmentAI and IT admins get visibility into oversharing risks in the Microsoft admin center and can drive remediation from there. The same view shows how much of their sensitive Copilot interaction volume is protected, and Purview DLP for Microsoft 365 Copilot can be turned on in place.
Source updated SourceAI-generated meeting archive for knowledge retention

Source updated Source
Compiled from public Microsoft sources: the Microsoft 365 Roadmap, Learn release notes, and official blogs. Every item links to its source.
One combined edition covering two weeks, 27 July to 7 August 2026, in place of separate week 31 and week 32 briefs. Two corrections to what we published earlier are carried in the items above rather than quietly dropped: domain exclusion for web grounding, which our week 30 edition called generally available, has been rolled back by Microsoft, and complex web search in Copilot in Excel is cancelled.
One gap worth naming. Microsoft’s Learn release notes had published nothing newer than 29 July when this edition closed, so changes released between 30 July and 7 August are not retrievable from that source and may surface in a later edition. Roadmap and blog coverage span the full window. The admin controls above map to our free field guides on Copilot data scope and rollout.
