Copilot Weekly24 September to 2 October 2026
A sourced digest of what changed in Microsoft 365 Copilot this week. Every item links to its first-party source.
This week at a glance
- Two changes land in the admin center: Copilot pricing pairs the per-user subscription licence with usage-based billing for advanced AI and frontier models, an additive metered layer on top of the flat seat rather than a replacement for it, and the plugin registry introduces a Plugins page that replaces and expands on the existing Agents page, bundling agents, skills and connectors into one package an admin approves once.
- Copilot in SharePoint and Copilot in OneDrive both reached general availability on a shared foundation, with AI-generated library metadata and reusable skills named for SharePoint, and OpenAI's GPT-6.1 Sol and Anthropic's Claude Sonnet 5.5 begin a phased rollout into model choice across Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Chat.
- The new Copilot app brings Home, Code and Autopilot together. Microsoft Scout is renamed Autopilot as it enters private preview, and Home and Code arrive through the Frontier program.
GA & Rolling Out
13General availability for Copilot in SharePoint
GACopilot in SharePoint is generally available. Teams can create and organise content, ask questions grounded in SharePoint, enrich libraries with AI-generated metadata and build reusable skills for repeatable processes, with image generation, site analytics reports and near real-time metadata autofill included. Site owners should decide which libraries get autofilled metadata.
Source updated SourceNew design and functionality for Copilot Chat
Rolling outCopilot in Teams and Outlook picks up the Copilot app's design in both full screen and the side pane. Users call agents inline by typing '/' and skills by typing '@', Copilot Chat matches results from scanned PDFs, and Copilot editing in Word, PowerPoint and Excel reached Android. Expect help-desk questions about the moved controls.
Source updated SourceSkills and connectors for Copilot in PowerPoint
Rolling outSkills package multi-step PowerPoint work into reusable capabilities a user calls instead of rebuilding the process prompt by prompt. Prebuilt skills, connectors that pull from connected sources, and an admin control to publish approved skills to chosen users or groups all arrived in September. Decide who may publish skills.
Source updated SourceAvailable today: OpenAI's GPT-6.1 Sol and Claude Sonnet 5.5 in Microsoft Copilot
Rolling outTwo more models join model choice in Microsoft Copilot: OpenAI's GPT-6.1 Sol and Anthropic's Claude Sonnet 5.5, after Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Sol arrived earlier. Work IQ grounds their answers in files, meetings, chats and business data within existing permissions. Review model-choice policy and the admin controls behind it.
Source updated SourcePlanner capabilities in Copilot chat (M365 Copilot)
Rolling outStatus change: in development -> rolling out. Copilot chat gains the ability to create Planner tasks and plans and to query Planner information, so task management moves between Copilot and Planner without a context switch. General availability is targeted for September 2026.
Source updated SourceOneNote: Multimodal capture in Copilot Notebooks (Android)
GAStatus change: the roadmap entry is marked generally available. Multimodal capture on Android transcribes audio, takes images and accepts typed notes in one session, then builds a structured Copilot Page in a chosen Copilot Notebook. The same capability was already generally available on iPhone and iPad.
Source updated SourceCitations and image modifications for Copilot in Word
Rolling outCopilot responses in Word now show citations to the web and work content behind an answer, and Copilot can arrange and modify images and shapes in the document. Both arrived in September.
Source updated SourceDynamics 365 Sales: Sales tools, skills and plugin are now available in Copilot Cowork
GAThe updated Sales plugin brings Dynamics 365 Sales context, actions and guided workflows into Copilot Cowork, with native Sales skills invoking tools published through the Dynamics 365 MCP server. It ships in the updated MOS package for the Sales app, so admins deploy and manage it centrally.
Source updated SourceGeneral availability for Copilot in OneDrive
GACopilot in OneDrive was rebuilt on the same foundation as Copilot in SharePoint, so creating content, organising information and working with files behaves the same in both places. Licensing follows the SharePoint approach, and the updated capabilities arrived in September.
Source updated SourceUse Copilot Chat after a call in Queues app
GAStatus change: rolling out -> generally available. After a recorded call ends, the Copilot Chat sidecar opens from the Recap tab in the Queues app, where a handler can ask for a summary or specific details instead of replaying the recording. Call recording and transcription remain the prerequisite.
Source updated SourceTargeted surveys in the Copilot Dashboard
Rolling outPulse surveys in the Copilot Dashboard can target dynamic lists built from adoption data and filtered on existing criteria, removing the hand-maintained recipient list. Reporting stays aggregated at population level rather than naming individuals. Rolled out in September.
Source updated SourceCopilot Chat can now better match search results from Scanned PDFs
Rolling outStatus change: in development -> rolling out. Copilot Chat matches search results from scanned PDFs among the files a user is working on, content that was previously hard to find. It applies to new and updated working files from this point forward, with general availability targeted for October 2026.
Source updated SourceLive subtitles on voice chat in Copilot when using the quick composer
GALive subtitles appear during voice chats in Copilot when the quick composer is used, so a user can follow a spoken exchange on screen. The roadmap entry was updated on 29 Sep 2026 but dates from 30 Sep 2025 and nothing else corroborates a change, so this may not be new availability.

Preview & Frontier
1Introducing the new Copilot with Home, Code and Autopilot
PreviewChange: Microsoft Scout is renamed Autopilot and enters private preview. The new Copilot app has three parts: Home, which places Chat and Cowork alongside built-in Word, Excel and PowerPoint; Code, for building and running solutions; and Autopilot, a persistent agent carrying its own identity, memory and workspace. Home and Code arrive through the Frontier program.

New & Updated Agents
17Excel Agent
GAExcel Agent turns data into charts, summaries and insights using built-in formulas and logic, refined through multi-turn chat. It is listed for Microsoft 365 users with or without a Copilot licence. The roadmap entry was updated on 29 Sep 2026 but dates from 19 Dec 2025 and nothing else corroborates a change, so this may not be new availability.
Source updated SourceAdd knowledge sources to an agent in Agent Builder
WatchAgent Builder documents per-agent knowledge-source limits: four public website URLs, 100 SharePoint files, folders or sites, one SharePoint list, 50 OneDrive files, five Teams chats, five Teams meetings and 20 embedded files. A new verification section states that freshly uploaded SharePoint or OneDrive content shows a Preparing status and is not used for grounding until ready.
Source updated SourceDataverse knowledge source in Agent Builder
WatchDataverse is marked as a supported knowledge source in Agent Builder, selected on the Configure tab under Knowledge via Dynamics 365 and Power Apps. Access runs read-only through Business Applications in Work IQ, which an admin enables per Power Platform environment, and Dataverse security settings still govern the data.
Source updated SourceDynamics 365 Business Central: Copilot and agents - Manage agent permissions easier
GABusiness Central can grant agents additional permissions at the point the agent requests them, rather than up front. The roadmap dates general availability to October 2026.
Source updated SourceDynamics 365 Business Central: Copilot and agents - Run data queries with MCP Server
GANew MCP tools in Business Central define, validate and run custom data queries, so an MCP application can reach data that no existing API covers. The roadmap dates general availability to October 2026.
Source updated SourceTeams Phone agent for Copilot in Teams Phone
Rolling outTeams Phone Agent is an AI calling receptionist for organisations on Teams Phone, rolled out in September. It answers incoming calls, handles repetitive requests such as common questions and appointment booking, and routes callers to the right department or person with an AI-generated summary, in over 60 languages.
Source updated SourceWhat is a Microsoft 365 Copilot plugin?
WatchA new Learn page defines the plugin as the packaging, publishing and management construct for Copilot extensibility: a declarative agent, a skill, a Copilot connector or an MCP server can each sit inside one plugin package. It adds a six-stage lifecycle from choosing components through packaging, validation, publishing and management, and states no preview or GA status.
Source updated SourceChange Management Best Practices to Drive Value with Agent Builder
WatchA Tech Community post sets out change-management practice for Agent Builder: the constraint on adoption is awareness, confidence and demonstrated value rather than technical readiness or licence supply. It is guidance rather than a capability change, useful as a template for an adoption plan.
Source updated SourceWork IQ: Custom agents + 3P calls
In developmentWork IQ will be able to invoke custom agents and agents that call supported third-party tools. The roadmap targets general availability for November 2026 with preview in October 2026.
Source updated SourceDynamics 365 Business Central: Copilot and agents - Enable Microsoft Copilot chat experience
GABusiness Central updates its Copilot chat panel to match the wider Copilot interface, carrying over the navigation and interaction patterns used in Microsoft 365 Copilot. The roadmap dates general availability and preview to October 2026.
Source updated SourceDynamics 365 Business Central: Copilot and agents - Improve purchase order matching in Payables Agent
GAPayables Agent matches purchase orders using an enriched PO Lines page that adds Line Amount and Expected Receipt Date, so value and timing separate similar-looking lines where quantity cannot, and draft finalisation aligns with existing posting controls. The roadmap dates general availability to October 2026.
Source updated SourceDynamics 365 Business Central: Copilot and agents - Manage tasks from all agents in dedicated task pane
GAA dedicated task pane in Business Central collects all tasks agents generate, including suggestions, validations, follow-ups and access to draft documents, and opens from anywhere in the product, where a user reviews, completes or dismisses them. The roadmap dates general availability to October 2026.
Source updated SourceDynamics 365 Business Central: Copilot and agents - Review content generated by agents directly on pages
GAAgent-generated suggestions such as descriptions, text proposals and field updates appear inline on the Business Central pages where people work, so a user evaluates and modifies the content in place before it is applied, instead of opening a separate task pane. The roadmap dates general availability to October 2026.
Source updated SourceDynamics 365 Business Central: Copilot and agents - Show avatars for record creators and modifiers in list
GAAvatars on Business Central list pages show which user, system account or AI agent created or last modified a record, with a hover tooltip giving the full display name and the update timestamp where available. The roadmap dates general availability to October 2026.
Source updated SourceDynamics 365 Business Central: Copilot and agents - Updates to Agent UI experience
GAAgent management in Business Central groups avatars together and adds a dedicated action for starting a new task. The roadmap dates general availability to October 2026.
Source updated SourceQuickstart: Create your first plugin with Work IQ Dev Tools
WatchA Learn quickstart covers the Work IQ Dev Tools CLI, which packages an existing declarative agent, skill or MCP server as a plugin, validates it locally, then sends a publish request to the plugin registry for an admin to approve or deny. The page calls the command tree alpha while the same-day developer blog calls the surface public preview.
Source updated SourceAdaptive card-based app & copilot agent link unfurling in Teams
GAThe entry's text describes discovering and adding SharePoint agents in chats and channels from the in-context store, which does not match its own title about link unfurling. The roadmap entry was updated on 1 Oct 2026 but dates from 16 Oct 2025, so this may not be new availability.

Copilot Studio
6Microsoft Copilot Studio: Agent Readiness in Microsoft Copilot Studio
GAStatus change: in development -> generally available. Agent Readiness gives makers an always-visible health check on a Copilot Studio agent: a single Review indicator surfaces anything blocking or at risk, from policy restrictions to missing evaluations, ahead of a publish. Blocked capabilities are greyed out with a stated reason. The roadmap dates general availability to September 2026.
Source updated SourceMicrosoft now hosts and manages the code created by Copilot
WatchCopilot Managed Runtime is an enterprise platform where Microsoft hosts and manages the code Copilot creates, with security, governance and IT control over how those apps run. The post states no preview or general availability date for the runtime.
Source updated SourceMicrosoft Power Platform governance and administration: Maker Guidelines
In developmentMaker guidelines will let administrators publish environment-level guidance to Copilot Studio makers: which tools, models, connectors and channels are approved, plus the right policy, request process or support contact, shown in the Review pane beside an agent's blockers and warnings. The roadmap targets general availability for November 2026 with preview in September 2026.
Source updated SourceMicrosoft Copilot Studio: Discover & Add Skills from the skill catalog
In developmentThe Skills catalog in Copilot Studio will let makers discover, reuse and selectively share approved organisational skills instead of recreating the same instructions for every agent, extending shared skills across Copilot Studio, Microsoft 365 Copilot and Cowork under central governance. The roadmap targets general availability for October 2026 with preview in September 2026.
Source updated SourceMicrosoft Copilot Studio: Persistent identity for Copilot Studio Agents
In developmentCopilot Studio agents will be able to hold their own governed Microsoft 365 identity, with a mailbox, Teams presence and Office access, so an agent can take part in shared business processes while admins control its access, policies and use as a first-class entity. The roadmap targets general availability for November 2026 with preview in September 2026.
Source updated SourceMicrosoft Copilot Studio: Self-learning for Copilot Studio Agents
In developmentSelf-learning will let agents mine completed runs for repeated tool sequences that a workflow could standardise, then present makers with recommendations, supporting evidence, expected impact and the instruction and tool changes involved, to accept, test and publish as a refined copy. The roadmap targets general availability for October 2026 with preview in September 2026.

Admin & Governance
9Evolution of the Copilot pricing model
WatchMicrosoft sets out a two-part pricing model for Copilot. The per-user subscription licence covers everyday AI at a flat monthly price, including model selection and the Auto routing option. Advanced AI and frontier models sit in a usage-based layer billed with Copilot Credits, added on top of the seat rather than replacing it.
Source updated SourceIntroducing the plugin registry - one place to discover and govern plugins for Microsoft Copilot
Rolling outOne registry now holds plugins for Copilot and Microsoft 365 apps, with discovery, publishing and governance in the Microsoft 365 admin center and Agent 365. A single plugin package can carry agents, skills and connectors, and an admin approves the plugin once and manages it centrally. The Plugins page replaces and expands on the existing Agents page, keeping access to agents alongside skills and connectors in one place.
Source updated SourceAdminister Microsoft 365 Copilot plugins and agents
WatchNew Learn admin guidance maps each extensibility object to where it is controlled, from plugin package and agent through skill, MCP server and Copilot connector. It states that controlling one object does not automatically control every referenced component, so a plugin approval and its components are governed separately. Governance models built on a single approval need review.
Source updated SourceAuthoritative sources in the Microsoft 365 admin center
Rolling outAdmins can designate up to 100 SharePoint sites as authoritative sources for Copilot Search in the Microsoft 365 admin center, lifting the relevance of verified official content in Copilot Search and Chat results. The same page allows viewing, adding, removing and bulk import or export of the list. The 100-site cap makes this a curation decision.
Source updated SourceInformation Protection-Auto-labeling scale increase for SharePoint and OneDrive
In developmentMaximum auto-labelling capacity for SharePoint and OneDrive will rise from 100,000 to up to 500,000 files per tenant per day, so sensitivity labels and protection settings reach more existing content before it is exposed to Copilot. The roadmap targets general availability for November 2026 across GCC, GCC High and DoD.
Source updated SourceMicrosoft Viva - Copilot Analytics: Export agent data from the Agent Dashboard
In developmentThe Agent Dashboard will add an export of de-identified, row-level agent metrics and attributes, giving detailed agent usage and user-level interaction data with personal identifiers removed. The roadmap targets general availability for October 2026 with preview from May 2026.
Source updated SourceMicrosoft 365 admin center - Usage reports - Copilot Chat for GCC, GCC High and DoD
GAStatus change: in development -> generally available. A Copilot Chat usage report in the Microsoft 365 admin center covers total active users, usage broken out per Microsoft 365 app and user-level activity insights, anonymised by default, for GCC, GCC High and DoD. The roadmap dates general availability to July 2026.
Source updated SourceDSPM, New Microsoft Purview Data Security Posture Management Experience
In developmentMicrosoft is rebuilding Purview Data Security Posture Management to unify visibility across traditional data and AI environments, with guided workflows, AI observability, posture reporting and Security Copilot agents for triage and policy management, plus third-party signal coverage. The roadmap targets general availability for October 2026 across GCC, GCC High and DoD.
Source updated SourceMicrosoft Purview compliance portal: Cloud Attachments preservation for users on hold
In developmentCloud attachment preservation will extend to users on infinite hold, preserving the versions of files shared across any OneDrive or SharePoint site, which is distinct from the existing labelling of cloud attachments and links shared through Exchange, Teams, Viva Engage and Copilot. The roadmap targets general availability for December 2026 with preview in November 2026.

Roadmap Watch
12Add custom insights to record summaries in Sales agent
CancelledStatus change: the roadmap entry has been marked cancelled. The entry would have let sellers add insights from any application to enrich account and opportunity summaries in Sales agent. Microsoft states the item is no longer accurate and will be removed from the roadmap, so any plan assuming non-CRM enrichment in Sales agent needs another route.
Source updated SourceEngage prospects faster with Sales Agent-enriched leads
CancelledStatus change: the roadmap entry has been marked cancelled. The entry described Sales Agent reviewing every lead in a seller's queue across CRM, web and third-party data to produce a lead summary that supports an engage-or-pass decision. It carried a target of September 2026, and lead-triage plans built on it need a different approach.
Source updated SourceEnrich Sales agent meeting prep with more data sources
CancelledStatus change: the roadmap entry has been marked cancelled. The entry would have brought richer data such as service tickets into Sales agent meeting preparation, so open issues surfaced before a customer conversation. Microsoft states the item is no longer accurate and will be removed from the roadmap.
Source updated SourceCopilot in SharePoint
In developmentThe roadmap entry for Copilot in SharePoint covers automated metadata, fixing stale content, faster page creation and richer content so Copilot answers are grounded. Microsoft's note on the entry says it is still in development for GA and has launched to preview only, against a September 2026 target, which contradicts this week's release-note claim of general availability.
Source updated SourceMicrosoft Edge: Ground Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat in Edge for Business in your open OneDrive and SharePoint documents
In developmentCopilot Chat in Microsoft Edge for Business will answer questions about the cloud documents a user has open in the browser, returning relevant answers and insights without leaving the tab. The roadmap targets general availability for October 2026.
Source updated SourcePowerPoint: Async Notifications for Copilot in PowerPoint
In developmentAsync notifications will let a user leave PowerPoint, switch device, go offline or end the day and still be told when a Copilot task finishes or needs attention. The roadmap targets general availability for October 2026.
Source updated SourceMicrosoft Clipchamp: Copilot video creation updates
In developmentCopilot will bring agentic video creation to the Clipchamp Video Hub, generating, editing and refining videos from prompts grounded in named documents or Work IQ knowledge, with preview and playback inside the chat. The roadmap targets general availability for January 2027 with preview in December 2026.
Source updated SourceOneDrive: Prompt gallery for Copilot
In developmentA Prompt Gallery in OneDrive will offer ready-made prompts for common file tasks across Create, Analyze, Find and Collaborate categories, reached from the Copilot button or the Copilot chat pane. The roadmap targets general availability and preview for October 2026.
Source updated SourceWord: Legal plugins in Copilot
In developmentLegal plugins in Copilot will add purpose-built skills for summarising, drafting, reviewing and redlining legal documents in Word and Cowork, drawing on Microsoft 365 work context and supported third-party legal sources. The roadmap targets general availability for October 2026 with preview from April 2026.
Source updated SourceWork IQ: ExpandedContextIQ
In developmentMicrosoft will expand Context IQ so users can discover and select additional agents, skills and content sources while composing a prompt. The roadmap targets general availability for November 2026 with preview in October 2026.
Source updated SourceDynamics 365 Customer Service: Service tools, skills and plugins are now available for Cowork, Code and Microsoft Scout
In developmentThe updated Service application will bring Dynamics 365 Customer Service context, actions and guided workflows into Chat, Cowork, Code and Microsoft Scout, with first-party tools delivered through the Dynamics 365 MCP server respecting business logic and each caller's existing permissions. The roadmap targets general availability for September 2026.
Source updated SourceIntelligent call delegation
In developmentIntelligent call delegation will answer incoming Teams calls, gather context and hand back enough detail to decide whether to pick up, and can book a follow-up through Microsoft Bookings. The roadmap targets general availability for November 2026.
Source updated Source
Compiled from public Microsoft sources: the Microsoft 365 Roadmap, Learn release notes, and official blogs. Every item links to its source.
One note on where these items came from. Twenty-eight items from earlier editions were left out because their status has not changed. The Microsoft 365 Copilot release notes page on Microsoft Learn still ends at its 23 September section, which covers 26 August to 22 September, so nothing on that page falls inside this window: every release-note entry here comes from Microsoft’s September 2026 monthly Copilot roundup instead. The Copilot Studio what’s-new page still ends at July 2026 and the Power Platform released-versions page still ends at version 2026.6.3 from 30 June, so neither carries anything in this window. The public documentation mirror for the Copilot admin content has not been updated since 30 April 2026, which means changes to those admin pages cannot be seen from outside at all. That same gap applied last week.
What this edition set aside: SharePoint Framework UX components in Copilot chat, where a search summary places them in the Frontier program in September but no first-party text confirms the label or the date; model choice with Grok, a genuine Frontier preview in Word, Excel and PowerPoint but published 12 September and therefore before this window opened; Package Management API request filters, the version parameter on the Copilot usage report APIs and Chat API cloud support, all three sitting on pages dated outside this window even though all three were republished inside it; and the Researcher agent, the Analyst agent and the Copilot Studio agent templates, for which no first-party source appeared inside the window. One more is worth naming: the “super app” framing that third-party coverage applied to the 25 September announcement. Microsoft’s own post never uses the phrase and announces no licensing merger, so it is not reported here as either. The admin and governance items above map to our free field guides on Copilot data scope and rollout.
