Tradeoff frame

Name the real trade-off behind a decision, who pays on each side, and the conditions under which each choice is right.

The prompt
Frame the trade-off in this decision.

Decision: WHAT.
The positions people are taking: SUMMARISE THEM.

Five parts.

The trade-off, in one sentence, stated as two good things that cannot
both be maximised. If your sentence has a villain in it, you have not
found the trade-off yet.

Who bears each cost. For each side, which group pays, in what currency:
time, money, risk, autonomy, credibility, workload. Disagreements
usually survive because the two sides are not paying with the same
thing.

When each side is right. The conditions under which choosing A is
correct, and the conditions under which choosing B is. Concrete
conditions, the kind you could check.

Which conditions hold here. Only from what I told you. Where I have not
told you, say what to check rather than filling it in.

Is it a false choice. Whether a third option gets most of both, and
what it would cost. Say plainly if there is not one, because an
invented third option is how a real trade-off gets buried.

Take no side.

How to use it

Run this in Chat. It is a thinking tool, not a deliverable.

Use when a discussion keeps going in circles because both sides are right about different things.

Vibe prepares and drafts. You verify and decide. Ask for a citation on every finding: a confident answer is not evidence.

What you get back

The trade-off named as two goods in tension, who bears each cost, the conditions favouring each side, and any false choice.

What it writes

Nothing. This one only answers.
